About World Igbo Congress and the Convention
World Igbo Congress is the apex Igbo organization in the Diaspora. In 1994, this organization was established in Houston, Texas, USA as an organ for the unity, dignity and welfare of the Igbo who at that time were and still are smacking from the impact of the Nigerian civil war. It was also established as an organ for the expression of the right of the Igbo to fair treatment of the Igbo in the comity of ethnic nationalities in Nigeria. World Igbo Congress convention will be hosted by the Igbo Association of Nashville, TN during the Labor Day weekend (August 30, 2018 to September 2, 2019. A very successful and peaceful election-year convention was hosted by Umunna Association of Chicago in 2017. The extremely successful 2016 convention was hosted by Igbo organization of New York. The extremely successful 2016 convention was hosted by Igbo organization of New York. In the last few years it was hosted by Igbo Community Associaton of Michigan, Detroit MI, 2015, Igbo People’s Congress, Houston, Texas, 2014, Igbo Community Association of Nigeria, Dallas/Forthworth, TX, 2013, Igbo Association of Tampa Bay, Florida, 2012 etc. Our members are community organizers, health and economic development practitioners from affiliates in most US metropolises and elsewhere. World Igbo Congress works in tandem with Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo as well as other progressive organizations with similar objectives such as Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), The Lower Niger Congress (LNC) and the Global Igbo Alliance (GIA) to ensure that the future of the Igbo and Igboland is protected.
